No doubt, Linux and the open-source movement has finally gathered steam to be a genuine threat to Microsoft. Linux is no longer a niche phenomenon. The Linux desktop is a cost-effective alternative to Microsoft Windows for enterprises.

All over the world, companies are realizing the cost, stability and flexibility benefits of Linux. In the way Linux is designed, it is immune to viruses, adware, spyware, and trojans which constantly attack Windows systems. Governments in Europe, especially Germany and France, see the actual costs of Linux and Open Source software as less significant than other facts, such as avoiding vendor lock-in and encouraging the local software industry.
